How to make sure work near power lines is safe

May is Electrical Safety Month, making this the perfect time to raise awareness about how to keep everyone safe when there will be work near overhead power lines or underground utilities.

  • Contact PSEG Long Island when any planned work at your home will be less than 10 feet from overhead power lines. This includes tree trimming and other projects.
  • Keep ladders away from power lines by a distance of at least twice the length of the ladder.
  • Never allow anything to touch overhead wires.
  • Call 811 at least three to five days before any work that involves digging, like a new tree or fence. It’s a free service to have the locations of any nearby underground wires, pipes and other facilities marked to avoid damage, injury or worse.
