Keeping your power on 24/7 requires constant and consistent work. PSEG Long Island inspects hundreds of miles of power lines every year to make sure the equipment is in good working order. Projects to strengthen the energy grid are helping to ensure we can meet the growing energy needs of homes and businesses on Long Island and in the Rockaways.
It’s now hurricane season and severe weather is typical in summer. PSEG Long Island prepares year-round with a storm-hardening program focused on critical sections of the grid. We are installing stronger poles, thicker wire and other modern equipment.

While storm preparation is particularly important right now, PSEG Long Island works all year to ensure that every community we serve receives safe, reliable and resilient power today and for years to come. Just a few of the infrastructure improvements this summer include:
- Installing new equipment in and around the Belmont and Whiteside substations to provide additional electrical capacity that will serve Elmont and Floral Park residents and the growing demand at UBS Arena and surrounding stores.
- Upgrades at the Hauppauge and Elwood substations to better serve residential customers in these areas and the concentrations of industrial customers around Hauppauge.
- Upgrades at the Hither Hills substation to improve reliability and ensure sufficient power supply for the East End. This upgrade completes a multi-year effort to upgrade all decades-old substations on the East End.
- Replacing transformers at the South Shore Mall in Bay Shore to improve reliability for the many stores and restaurants that operate there.
We have been deeply committed to our island since beginning service to you in 2014. Thank you for that opportunity.
See how we’re perfecting power in your neighborhood!
