The bitterly cold winter, higher energy use, and current oil and natural gas prices have caused an increase in energy costs across the country. Most of the electricity you use comes from power plants fueled by natural gas. While PSEG Long Island doesn’t own power plants or benefit from higher energy prices, we understand the impact on you and remain committed to helping you manage your energy bills.
Your Bill
A big part of your bill is the Power Supply Charge. This is the cost of electricity, and it fluctuates with energy market prices. It has increased significantly and we expect it to remain higher than usual for at least a few more months. We do not control that part of your bill or add any additional charges to it. Not a penny. What you pay for the Power Supply Charge is the actual cost of electricity.
The Delivery and System Charge is the other major portion of your bill, and the part that we can directly control. Over the past 12 years, we have carefully managed these rates to make energy more affordable for our customers. In fact, PSEG Long Island’s rates were 27% lower than the highest-priced utility in our region last year.

If your household struggles to pay energy bills, you may be able to pay off a balance over time or receive financial assistance. - Time-of-Day Rate
You can reduce the impact of higher prices by conserving energy and using it more efficiently. For customers on a Time-of-Day rate, you can also benefit by controlling when you use energy.
